DESCRIPTION:Berühre die Steine im Fluss \nIn den so verschiedenen geokulturellen Sphären Chinas und Deutschlands wachsen parallel die zwei Protagonisten des Romans auf. Huang\, der Sohn eines armen Reisbauern\, durchlebt den großen Sprung und die Kulturrevolution mit ihren Wirren und Grausamkeiten\, jubelt Mao in Peking zu.  Miriam\, aus Münchner gutbürgerlichem Hause\, durchläuft Schule\, Tanzstunde\, erste Lieben\, studiert\, engagiert sich den Maoisten nahe stehend und lernt mit dem Ziel\, das Land ihrer Visionen zu besuchen\, chinesisch. Im Rahmen eines Kulturabkommens geht sie als Dozentin an eine Universität in Shanghai. Es ist die Zeit Deng Xiaopings\, der Reform und Öffnung verspricht. \nIm Kollegium der dortigen Universität lernt sie Huang kennen. Sie verlieben sich\, heiraten trotz politischen Widerstands\, bekommen einen Sohn. Miriam lebt eingebunden in die Großfamilie mit ihrer wechselseitigen Hilfe und geht ihrem Beruf als Dozentin nach. Komplikationen treten auf\, wenn östliches und westliches Verhalten und Denken aufeinanderprallen. Nach einer ihrer Vorlesungen geraten auch die politischen Systeme in einen konfrontativen Vergleich. \nIn Tibet\, während einer Reise\, verstößt Miriam gegen Rede- und Handlungsverbote. SUMMARY:L'Arpentage: Assembling the Story
DESCRIPTION:While reading together is the foundation of any book club\, arpentage (a French collective reading practice) transforms this idea into a collaborative and creative experience. Each participant reads only a fragment of the text; its broader context emerges later\, through collective discussion. Meaning is assembled gradually\, as individual impressions and interpretations are shared. In this way\, literature is read – and re-read – together\, through a multiplicity of perspectives. \nIntroduced by Akademie Schloss Solitude Fellow Lily Abichahine at the Stuttgarter Schriftstellerhaus\, this series of arpentage sessions will be led by the artist herself. Participants will experience the process of disassembling\, reading\, and reassembling a major literary work. The session\, on the 23rd June\, will take place at the Stuttgarter Schriftstellerhaus. \nThe session will focus on James Joyce’s Dubliners. It is about life in Dublin in 15 short stories. The central themes are everyday life\, disappointment\, stagnation\, and social constraints. \n\nThe Stuttgarter Schriftstellerhaus is an institution dedicated to contemporary literature\, fostering encounters between writers\, texts\, and audiences through readings\, discussions\, and experimental formats. \nLily Abichahine is an artist and researcher whose work explores the relationship between art and law. A PhD candidate at Paris VIII University\, her research focuses on fiction in legal and artistic representations\, with particular attention to tribunals as performative spaces. Currently based in Stuttgart\, she seeks to create situations of dialogue – opening spaces where discussion can unfold – and to translate complex legal knowledge into accessible forms. Drawing on regulations and their anthropology\, her work reflects on heritage and collective memory\, moving fluidly between visual arts (installations and video) and performance (monologues and staged assemblies).
